1. Approved Chimney Types (Required)
A Kuuma sauna stove must be connected to one of the following chimney systems:
✅ Factory-Built Chimney
Must be listed to UL 103 Type HT (High Temperature)
✅ Masonry Chimney
Must be a code-approved masonry chimney
Must include a proper flue liner
No other chimney types are permitted.
2. Connector Pipe (Stove Pipe) Requirements
The connector pipe is the pipe that runs from the stove flue collar to the chimney system.
Required:
6-inch diameter stovepipe
Must be listed for solid-fuel use
Must connect directly from the stove to the approved chimney system
Explicit manual requirements:
A chimney damper is recommended to be installed, usually at the top of the first section of the stovepipe from the stove
All stovepipe joints must be secured with a minimum of three (3) sheet-metal screws
Not specified by Kuuma:
Stovepipe wall thickness or gauge
Single-wall vs double-wall connector pipe
These characteristics are governed by the stovepipe manufacturer’s listing and installation instructions, not by Kuuma.
3. Chimney Height Requirements (Mandatory)
The chimney system must meet minimum height requirements to ensure proper draft.
The chimney must:
Extend at least 3 feet above the point where it exits the roof

Kuuma does not assign clearance dimensions for chimney systems — those come from the chimney listing itself.
6. Prohibited Installations
The following are not allowed:
Running single-wall stovepipe through ceilings, attics, or roofs
Using unlisted chimney systems
Mixing components from different chimney manufacturers
Reducing chimney diameter below 6 inches
Omitting the chimney damper in the first stovepipe section
Omitting required mechanical fasteners at stovepipe joints
7. Inspection, Cleaning, and Safety Requirements
The manual requires:
Regular inspection of the stovepipe and chimney
Removal of creosote buildup as necessary
Maintaining the chimney system in safe operating condition
In the event of a chimney fire:
Close the stove door
Close the draft control and chimney damper
Contact the fire department immediately
